WHAT IS TENNIS ELBOW AND HOW TO DEAL WITH THIS CONDITION?

Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis) is a type of Tendinitis, a medical condition in which there are inflammation and pain in the elbow and arm.

Tendons are bands of tough tissues that binds and connects the muscles of lower arms to the bones. Tennis Elbow happens when a person does any gripping activities in which thumbs or muscles of the lower arm faces too much strain or pressure.

The problem of Tennis Elbow is not only confined to athletes but normal people also suffer from this. The pain of tennis elbow occurs majorly where the tendons of your forearm muscles attach to the bony part of your Elbow and sometimes it can target your forearm and wrist.

Causes of Tennis Elbow

Tennis Elbow usually develops over a period of time with the repeated contraction and movement of forearm muscles, the constant strain causes a series of a tear in the tendons attached to the forearm muscles.

Muscle pain caused by Tennis Elbow can be relieved by using pain reliever spray.   

Playing Tennis is not the only reason behind the occurrence of Tennis Elbow, but there could be many possible days to day tasks and activities that lead to this painful state.

Some of them include:

  • Usage of plumbing tools
  • Painting
  • Tree –cutting
  • Carpentry
  • Playing some Musical Instruments
  • Cutting meat or any tough eatables
  • Excessive usage of Computer Mouse

These could be the possible causes behind the occurrence of Tennis Elbow.

Risk Factors

These are some factors which may increase the probabilities of Tennis Elbow

  1. Age of a person – Though it can happen to a person of any age, it mostly affects adults between the age of 27-50.
  2. Type of Activity they do – People who do a certain set of activities that lead to a stretch or tear in tendons are the ones that mostly suffer from it.

Sportsperson, Carpenters, Butchers, Painters, and plumbers are the most common ones to suffer from this problem.

Natural Treatment to cure Tennis Elbow

By using the Ice, you can reduce pain and swelling caused due to the problem of Tennis Elbow,

Icing is one of the best methods to relieve pain and Inflammation as it prevents the progression of this condition.

You can use ice cubes with the following method

  1. Wrap some Ice cubes in a fine piece of cloth or a thin towel.
  2. Provide rest to Elbow
  3. Place the cloth or towel on the affected area.
  4. Leave it for some time
  5. Repeat it daily until the pain or swelling is gone

Turmeric

Turmeric contains Curcumin, which has natural anti-inflammatory properties and reduces pain alongside.

It also has high antioxidant properties which result in fast healing, you can consume turmeric powder with a cup of hot milk twice a day to see better results.

Ginger

Ginger is one of the most popular natural food used in our day-to-day food preparations and is used in making many types of dishes.

Along with this, Ginger has many health benefits and comprises many properties like its anti-inflammatory qualities that help to alleviate the symptoms of Tennis Elbow.

Or Consume ginger by using this technique for better results in Tennis Elbow:

  • Cut ginger root into pieces and boil them in a glass of water for 10 minutes, strain the extract, add some honey in it and drink it twice or thrice a day till you experience the results and improvement in the overall condition of your elbow.

Fenugreek

Fenugreek has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce inflammation and pain.

Consumption of Fenugreek also helps to speed up recovery time, so consume this fine powder made from fenugreek seeds with a glass of lukewarm water to alleviate symptoms of Tennis Elbow and to provide relief in painful muscles.

Garlic

Garlic is rich in Sulphur and Selenium which helps to relieve pain and swelling and provides relief in Tennis Elbow.

  • Heat four cloves of Garlic in mustard oil until they are dark brown. Strain and let the oil cool down and apply this oil on the affected area.

Follow this remedy daily until you get relief in Symptoms of Tennis Elbow.

  • Also, try to eat two to three cloves of raw Garlic.

Herbal Ointment for Pain Relief

In Tennis Elbow, a person generally suffers from pain and inflammation, pain relief ointments can be used to get relief in these symptoms.

Muscle pain relief ointments relieve swelling and pain caused by the strain and tear in the Tendons.

  1. Boil one teaspoon of dried white willow bark with a cup of water.
  2. Cover it for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Strain and drink this effective drink.
  4. Do this daily till you start feeling the water.

These natural treatments will surely help you to relieve pain and inflammation caused by the problem of the tennis elbow.
