Home Remedies that are Effective to Heal Cough and Cold

Cold and cough are two main viral infections that can affect people of any age at any time.  Both the issues are quite irritating and can affect the daily life. These infections do not come alone, sometimes with headache, sneezing, high fever, itchy eyes sore throat and body ache.

Therefore, whenever you find any symptoms of cough or cold, treat with some home remedies before you suffer more. Rather than going for heavy dosage of allopathic medicine it is always good to use some kitchen ingredients.

Turmeric Milk :

Turmeric milk is a traditional remedy for cold. Milk when mixed with turmeric and ginger powder, helps in cough and other symptoms of cold, body ache and headache.

Turmeric is powerful spice with ant-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Simply add turmeric and ginger powder in milk; boil the mixture. Allow the milk to cool down and drink it. For the better results try to drink it 2 times a day, specifically before going to bed.

Honey :

Honey is another effective remedy for cold and cough relief. Due to presence of powerful antiseptic, antibacterial and healing properties, honey can kill the bacteria that cause the infection.

Take 1 glass of warm water, add 1 tablespoon of raw honey to it and drink slowly. Repeat the same a few times a day. The mixture is really effective to heal cough and cold.

Instead of this, you can also eat 1 teaspoon of raw honey with ½ teaspoon of cinnamon powder. The technique will not only help you get relief from congested throat but also give you relaxed sleep.

Red Onion :

The juice of onions is high in use to prepare syrups for cough and cold. Besides this, the essential oil of it when inhaled is also beneficial to ease cold. Among other onions, red one is considered to be high in antioxidants like quercetin  and chromium.

People who suffer from the cold can get enough relief from homemade red onion syrup. To prepare syrup, you need onions, honey or brown sugar. Slice 2 or 3 red onions; put slices in a small mason jar and add raw honey.

Add honey into the jar until it gets filled. After that cover the jar and leave it for 12 to 15 hours. When you will open the jar, there will be thick liquid like syrup.

You need to take spoonful of this syrup several times a day to get relief from sore throat and other symptoms of cold.

Black Pepper :

Black pepper is known as the king of spices because of its several health-promoting properties. The antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of it are really good to provide various health issues.

There is a compound in black pepper called piperine that makes it pungent and excellent herb for health issues. Piperine is well known to cure cold, cough and sore throat by reducing cough and improving breathe.

Anytime you suffer from a runny rose, add pepper to your food. Alternatively, you can a lso gargle with one glass of warm water mixed with black pepper.

Cinnamon :

Cinnamon is an excellent herb that can fight pain of a dry and a sore throat. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of cinnamaldehyde compound in it are cough and cold reliever.

Mix 2 cloves and 1 tablespoons of cinnamon powder in 2 cups of boiling water. Allow it to simmer for 15 minutes. Strain and drink it while lukewarm. For the better taste you can also add honey to it. Take it 2-3 times a day for the best results.

Ginger :

You might have heard saying people that ginger is effective in cold and cough. It is loaded with anti-oxidant and anti-viral properties which make it an excellent choice for treating various health issues.

You can either take ginger tea or eat raw in salad. You can also make a paste of ginger, clove powder, black pepper and honey. Eat this potion 2 times a day for better relief from cough.
